Two day tour – North Island Coromandel

Leaving from Auckland direction south up and over the Bombay hill entering the Waikato region beautiful farmlands. After about one hour twenty minutes, we will stop for about 30 minutes in the historic gold mining town of Thames located in between the Firth of Thames and the majestic ranges of the Coromandel.
We continue our tour to Whitianga where we visit the hot water beach, explore the Coromandel Scenic Cruise (optional) one of the world’s most stunning piece of coastline, Cathedral Cove, sea caves, volcanic rock formations, and pinnacles, plus marine reserve above and below the surface.
After our busy day, I will bring you to your accommodation in Whitianga township where you can enjoy the rest of the day, perhaps with a good meal and a nice glass of NZ wine.

Day two is the day with plenty photo opportunities stunning white sandy beaches, backed by white cliffs. You will see the pristine native forest and impressive sea and land views. We drive over SH25 via Kuaotuna, Te Renga to Coromandel Town.  Here the famous “Driving Creek Railway & Potteries” (optional) an one hour event you do not want to forget. The railway is a Narrow-gorge mountain railway train ride through regenerated native forest with pottery sculptures lining the track.
Having seen the unique character of Coromandel town and the arts & craft people we go to our next stop Thames this is our last stop before Auckland where we finished our great tour.

Our destination today is Rotorua via the Thames, Historic town Waihi, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga and Mount Maunganui the first stop will be Waihi. Waihi “Heart of Gold” few parts of New Zealand can offer so much history glimpses of the hard-fought, gold-rich, pioneer lifestyle. Waihi’s gold – mining heritage is embraced and on display in the local Information Center. Only meters away from the information center we can walk right to the edge of Waihi’s huge open pit gold mine here you have stunning views of the pit and town. This stop will take about 1.5 hrs. Next drive will be from Waihi to Tauranga and the very popular beach town of Mount Maunganui located in the Bay of Plenty known in The Maori Language as “Te Moana-a-Toi”. This area is known for its volcanic landscapes, kiwi fruit, avocado’s, dairy farming, impressive stunning beaches, and pristine native forest reserves. We show you some impressive hilltop views over the western bay of plenty, an olive grove, avocado trees we visit a kiwifruit orchard and a winery, included wine tasting and the very popular beach of Mount Maunganui. This will be a day with many photo opportunities.  We are arriving in Rotorua later in the afternoon and time permitted I will show you some Rotorua City highlights before or after we bring you to your accommodation.

Today you will visit one of the most popular and spectacular geothermal areas in New Zealand it’s located on the Southern end of the Okataine Volcanic Centre about 30km south of Rotorua. Explore and walk the spectacular unique nature landscape at NZ most colorful natural volcanic park it will take you between 50 and 75 minutes. You will have amazing photo opportunities from the natural colored pools and springs and the biggest boiling mud pool in NZ.  All this will take us about two hours and that means we must move on to the Waitomo Caves another 2.5 hrs drive including a 30 minutes’ stop.

Waitomo glow-worm caves are another one of the famous and spectacular NZ attractions discover the magic light of the Arachne Campa lumonis a glow-worm. As your boat is glide silent under the magical starry luminescent lights you experience a unique and enjoyable feeling that never will forget.
Moving on to Auckland another 2 hours’ drive, however, time permitted we can give you the opportunity to visit the Otorohanga Kiwi house where you admire the kiwi bird. (Optional)

We continue our journey driving through the Waipoua forest here you will have the opportunity to admire the great NZ  Kauri forest. From here we will drive north east to Pahoa area we stop and sleep here overnight.

We start fresh at the Pahoa and Russel area. This busy day we are giving you the opportunity to visit the Waitangi Treaty house (not included) thereafter we will take the Opua ferry you enjoy looking around the quaint township(s) of Russell. From here we meander back through small New Zealand towns and get to experience the life of true New Zealand. While we on our way back to Auckland we will have different stops for you to enjoy the scenery. Five Day Tour

You can sit back and relax in our air-conditioned Mini Bus and enjoy the scenery. Our first target is Auckland to Hobbiton in the heart of New Zealand close to the town of Matamata. Here you can experience the magic of Hobbiton, you can step on the lush pastures of the Shire, as featured in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbiton tour will take about 2.5 hrs. including lunch.
We then drive to the beautiful Bay of Plenty where we stay overnight. However, on the way we stop at the top of Kaimai ranges stunning views overlooking the Waikato region. In the descent of the Kaimai ranges, we are having a short stop at the spectacular Maclaren Falls. From here we move on to Tauranga and the popular beach town of Mt. Maunganui. We overnight in this area.

We are leaving the Western Bay of Plenty driving through the town of Te Puke the kiwifruit capital of the world the normal population around 9000 in the kiwifruit harvesting time they will need about 20.000 people extra for harvesting and packing. Eighty percent of the total kiwifruit is growing in this area and there are about 65 packinghouses. We will stop here and visit one of the kiwifruit orchards this include free tasting and a short-guided tour.
After this interesting stop, we move on and over the Pacific Highway to the beautiful town of Whakatane. Here we drop off some or all of us at the White Island Cruise departure. Departing on the tide and weather. This also will decide if we drive all the way to Gisborne or staying here overnight. Be aware that some days the cruise will not go ahead because of the sea conditions. Our alternative for people who are not going with the cruise is exploring the eastern bay of plenty, one of the most beautiful areas of NZ. Depending on the cruise we overnight here or in Gisborne.

We will be driving over the Waiweka Gorge, crossing the stunning Raukumara Ranges to the city of Gisborne into Hawk’s Bay this is another region of New Zealand east coast south of the east cape. This region is recognized on the world stage for its award-winning wines. Next target is Napier were the rest of the day you can visit the city of Napier, world-famous Art-Deco city rebuild after a 1931 earthquake, here we recommend a guided city walk in this unique city. Other easy walks over the tree lined waterfront Marine Parade and botanic gardens. The Pania of the Reef statue depicting a Maori maiden is a symbol of the city.
We will overnight here you will enjoy Napier’s night live.

Another long drive today over and trough country site with steep hills covered with native rain forest like the Raukumara ranges, first city we visit is Taupo and crater Lake Taupo the biggest lake in New Zealand the surface area 616 square km / 238 square miles. On the south side of this lake is Ruapehu Skiing and Snowboarding fields here are also some active and dormant volcanoes. Another impressive beauty in this area is Huka Falls and yes, we will visit these falls. Next, we drive in the direction of Rotorua, however about half way we will stop and give you the opportunity to visit a top geothermal attraction on the Taupo volcanic plateau “Wai OTapu”, colored lakes, Lady Knox geyser (10.15 a.m.), the biggest hot mud lake in New Zealand. The last visit today will be Rotorua. Many attractions here too many to mention. I will bring you to your accommodation and advise you on the options here in Rotorua.

Last day on your five-day New Zealand adventure with us. We start the day with showing you some highlights in and around Rotorua.
We move than in the direction of Auckland, on the way we are giving you the option to visit the famous Waitomo glow worm caves and Otorohanga Kiwi house on the way. Last drive to your Auckland to drop you off at your accommodation or other agreed location.
